Sarah Palin Likes to Run

July 3rd, 2009
Sarah Palin, the 45-year-old governor of Alaska gave an interview with Runners World Magazine where she revealed a bit about her own workout regimen as well as how she thinks she would fare against President Obama in a good old-fashioned foot race.  Palin said that she always runs and it keeps her sane.  The mother of five explained that unless she’s ‘too pregnant’ she runs,
“I feel so crappy if I go more than a few days without running … Sweat is my sanity.”
She normally runs along the trails in Anchorage and Juneau but she’s often not spotted by tourists nor photographers:
“When I run, I’m totally incognito because I’m not wearing the trough of full makeup,” she boasts. “I can go running through a mob of tourists and they don’t recognize me.”
Palin also revealed what music she listens to while running:
“… old Van Halen and AC/DC, then I get into my country music, then I always wrap it up with a couple mellow Amy Grant songs.”
Keep in mind that Palin does have a few marathon runs under her belt so when asked how she would fare against the President she said,
“I betcha I’d have more endurance.  So if it were a long race that required a lot of endurance I’d win.”

Courtney Love Vows To Gain Weight

July 3rd, 2009

courtney-love-vows-to-gain-weight

Courtney Love, the former lead singer of Hole, has recently been spotted looking gaunt and scary thin.  Because of the recent targeting by the tabloids and also because her doctor told her she’s undernourished, she did finally speak out to Grazia magazine and said she will try to gain some weight.  She quoted,
“I know I’ve got too skinny. I know I need to sort it out. I am going to put on 15lbs in one month.”
She continues,
“I do not have body dysmorphia. Seriously, I want to get fatter. You know, when I was 192lbs, I thought I looked hot! [My doctor] gave me a massive shot of vitamins and told me to start eating.”
The 44-year-old even weighed herself during the Grazia interview and she was surprised at what she saw on the scales:
“S***, I thought I was like 130lbs, but I’m 118lbs and I’m 5ft 10ins, that’s not good for someone my height.  I need to start working out again. It’s the stress – you have no idea what it has been like these last few months. I need to get to the bottom of this fraud, I need answers.”
The fraud she is referring to is the millions of dollars that she claims has gone missing from her late husband’s (Kurt Cobain) estate.

July 3rd, 2009

megan-fox-weight-loss-and-depression

The Transformers star, Megan Fox, is on the cover of the June UK issue of GQ Magazine.  Inside, she revealed that as she has struggled with stardom she began to stress about her career and she wondered if everything was dependent on her good looks.  Before she started filming Jennifer’s Body she actually packed on the pounds but then once filiming began she drastically lost weight.  She thought this was just because of her role in the film but she knew deep down inside that it was because of depression.  She said,

“Really my only job is to look attractive. I was so angry about that, that I went in the opposite direction. I turned into a really butch bull dyke for, like, six months… Then I went in the other direction. From being a giant motorcycle-riding lesbian, I turned into a zombie. I lost, like, 30 pounds.”

She went on to say,

“I was like, ‘I’m losing weight for the movie’. I was telling myself I was being method (method acting), which was so outrageous and ridiculous and not true. “But I ended up getting sick and my hair started falling out and I was like, ‘Oh f**k. I can’t do this’… You lose too much weight, you’re not getting your vitamins, you get sick. I was really skinny. I was depressed.”

Now, Megan has her depression sorted out and she is on the right track mentally when it comes to learning how to deal with the pressures of Hollywood.

Hugh Jackman’s Dedication to Working Out

July 3rd, 2009

hugh-jackmans-dedication-to-working-out

International celebrity Hugh Jackman, known for his role in the X-men series and most recently as the song and dance man with Beyonce Knowles at the Oscars, has girls drooling and men jealous with his stellar physique.  This month, in the Australian Fitness First Magazine, he and his trainer Michael Ryan discussed his training and lifestyle habits.   He proves to be a man dedicated to exercise and fitness.  His trainer said,

“Hugh has the most extraordianry motivation that I’ve ever come across.  So muchof Hugh’s motivation comes from within.  As an example, Hugh was here for two days only (from the USA), and he’s on a plane out of here at 6:30am, and so we will get up at 4:15am to fit in a weights session, a soft sand run, a beach swim and brekky at his favourite morning eatery, Speedo’s Cafe at Bondi.  All before he flies out.”

Hugh responded,

“It’s true.  I do love training with a lot of intensity.  I think it’s becaue my training is the platform for my entire day.  When I have a great training session in the morning, everything else just seems to flow on as a result.”

While Hugh was training for his latest X-Men movie he did a mega-intense workout four days a week and ate six meals a day.  In order to bulk up he got his protein from natural and unprocessed sources, primarily drank water and avoided all processed foods.

Exercise and Arthritis Recommendations

July 3rd, 2009

I get a lot of reader questions from people who are currently suffering from arthritis (both osteoarthritis No-pain and rheumatoid arthritis) and are wondering if they can still exercise safely to lose weight.

For years the answer was always to stay away from working out, but after doing some considerable research into this subject it seems that as long as the exercise does not cause pain while performing it then it is not only acceptable to do, but recommended.

Here’s what says Zuzana de Jong, PhD, rheumatologist and researcher at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands has to say, “my research shows that people who participated in high-intensity exercise, such as sports, jogging or strength training, at least twice a week, improved in daily functioning and mood.”

She also went on to say that exercise DID NOT speed up the rate of joint deterioration, which is something that many arthritis suffers worry about.

So if you’re ready to get started, I suggest you first speak with your doctor and then ease into an exercise program slowly. Start with just some light walking and possibly 2 days a week of strength training for about 20 minutes. If all of that goes well you can gradually increase your workout threshold until you find the right balance.

Have A Healthy 4th of July

July 3rd, 2009

The 4th of July is a time for BBQs and fun and you can enjoy the festivities and eat right. 4th of july

Here are some tips to have a healthy holiday….

Enjoy lean cuts of beef, boneless/skinless chicken, or vegetables from the grill.

Snack on vegetables instead of chips and make sure any dipping is done in low-fat dip.

Make low-fat salads such as Asian-Flavored Coleslaw with Rice Vinegar and Ginger and Potato Salad with Fresh Herbs and Lemon

Stick to drinking water, unsweetened ice tea, or club soda. If you are going to drink alcohol stick to wine or beer because mixed drinks, especially frozen ones, can have up to 500 calories a drink!

For dessert stick to fresh fruit - try this Mixed Berry Salad with Mint which incorporates summers fresh fruits.

Have a healthy and safe holiday!

Choose Color for Health and Weight Loss

July 2nd, 2009

J0436433 I am always telling my clients the importance of eating enough fruits and vegetables. And although all vegetables have some valuable nutrients here’s a way of defining the vegetables that provide you with the most nutrients, especially if you frequently shortchange your diet in this area. Simply choose fruits and vegetables with the most color. These fruits/vegetables contain the most potent nutrients called phytonutrients.

Choose red vegetables such as red peppers, tomatoes and watermelon. Choose orange as in apricots, carrots and cantaloupe. Select yellow and green vegetables like artichokes, corn, lettuce, and your leafy greens like chard and collards. Don’t forget the cruciferous group like broccoli and cabbage. And last but not least and everyone’s summer favorites, select the blue and purple foods with all the berries that are so readily available right now.

The good news about all these foods is that they are all low in calories, high in fiber, taste great and benefit us with our weight loss efforts, as well as providing us with great health benefits. Don't forget that Nutrition Data has some really great tools to actually help you personalize your own individual food plan so you get all the other nutrients you need in your daily diet.

Fat Loss Laser Tool

July 2nd, 2009

Fat-loss-laser “Zerona,” the noninvasive, weight loss laser is pending FDA approval, but I thought I’d give you an advanced preview of what it is supposed to do…

The Zerona claims to “activate the release of fat from adipose tissue, which is then absorbed by the lymphatic system and removed from the body.”

The cost of this procedure is $500 per session and 6 treatments are typically needed.

Although no one knows the long-term potential side-effects of this laser I wonder if this product will be in high-demand.

If cost wasn’t an issue would you try out this experimental procedure?

Miley Cyrus Speaks Out On Weight

July 2nd, 2009

miley-cyrus-speaks-out-on-weight

The Hanah Montana star Miley Cyrus has had enough of the bullying when it comes to her weight and she has finally spoken out about it.  A couple of weeks ago when some photos came out with Miley wearing a bikini at the beach she was bombarded with negative remarks by internet goons who said she looked fat.  Miley fired back by twittering that this gossip encourages online cyber-bullying and it has to stop.  She tweeted,

“Talk all you want. I have my flaws. I’m a normal girl (sic) theres things about my body I would change but stop with calling me f*t in post. I dont even like the word. Those remarks that you hateful people use are fighting words. The ones that scar people and cause them to do damage to themselves or others.”

She continues,

“People that are so okay with being so hateful disgust me and need to spend last time on a gossip website and more time a. reading your bible b. reading stories/articles about what happens when cyber abuse and name calling happens. Kids hurt themselves.”

And this last comment is great when she advises that those who don’t have jiggly bits need to see a doctor,

“This is not something to be taken lightly. I know these “message boards” are “no big deal” to YOU but (it) is to the victim. This has got to stop!!! Oh and ps if your thighs don’t jiggle go see a doctor. Thanks.”

Three cheers for Miley, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!

Kimberley Locke Wants to Lose Weight

July 2nd, 2009
kimberley-locke-wants-to-lose-weightSandra Bullock always looks amazing.  Her positive energy is evident in her films and in the interviews with televisions and magazines.  Her newest movie, The Proposal, which came out this summer has been a hit, and let’s not forget to mention that apart from her great acting in the film she looks great as well.  In InStyle magazine, Sandra was asked how often she cheats on her diets, she replied,
“I start Friday night and I end Saturday night. But it is not so regimented. I’ll make lists of what I want to eat this week or next week. I was in the store Marfa and they had this dark chocolate with bacon in it so I’ve gotta try that! I eat really well because I can afford to. Like last night I had brown rice and black beans and some steamed vegetables so today I’m going to have all kinds of good stuff! I love sweets, like Viennese pastry, raw cookie dough, or a nice bowl of Lucky Charms with milk that I eat in bed watching SNL. That’s heaven right there!”
She also revealed a bit of her workout routine and admitted that looking good is part of the package when being a celebrity.
“People ask, ‘How do actresses do it?’ Um, they pay us to do this in order to look good on film. I do Pilates, kickboxing, weight training. When I’m in Austin, I run or ride a bike. If I can work out every day, I will. But there are times when I won’t do anything for two weeks, and I’m, like, you know what? I talk enough to burn calories.”

kimberley-locke-wants-to-lose-weight

Kimberly Locke, the American Idol runner up in 2003 has had an active career since the Idol days.  She has had a hit on the Top 10 Billboard’s Adult Contemporary charts, modeled plus-sized clothing, been a spokesperson for Lane Bryant and Jenny Craig, and now she is co-host on the Gospel Channel’s show, Gospel Dream.

In a recent interview with CNN she admitted that she still feels like a ‘big girl at heart’ and would like to be on a reality show to lose some more weight even though she already appeared on Celebrity Fit Club.  She said,

“I’m not really a big reality show fan. I did “Celebrity Fit Club” because there was a purpose behind that in my wanting to lose weight. There is only one reality show I really, really want to do, and that’s “Dancing With the Stars.” I want to be on that show because then I’d lose the extra 10 to 15 pounds I want to lose.”

Now in 2009 Kimberley looks great and it’s surprising that she still wants to lose 10 or 15 pounds.  It is however sad to think that she feels that a reality show is her only weight loss option in her reality TV driven world.
